Doula
I started attending births as a doula in 2000 while I began my journey to midwifery. I originally considered attending births in a hospital setting, but after spending time in many local hospitals and seeing many traumatic births, hospital politics and subpar and impersonal care given to women and families, I decided that I wanted to attend homebirths only.
Around 2003, I began my midwifery apprenticeship with a local homebirth midwife who opened my eyes to unhindered gentle birth. I became enamored with the strength of women, the wisdom of babies and the importance of research-based medicine.
I'm passionate about informed choice and proactive healthcare. My goal is to be a resource for families wanting to get research-based information on what their options really are, not just the options that their provider or birth institution wants them to know. I believe strongly that everyone deserves to be respected in their chosen birth space, and well educated on interventions and options so they can make informed decisions that best fit their family.
My heart and passion are for homebirths. I'm also a strong advocate for VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean), breech birth and unassisted birth. My midwifery idols are Michel Odent, Henci Goer and Sara Wickham.
I love knitting, gardening, listening to music and learning about whole foods, herbs and nutrition. I'm always interested in learning about anything related to attachment and gentle parenting.
I live in Aumsville with my husband and sweet daughter. We love staying at home bundled up reading, singing, dancing and playing, but can often be found making trips on a whim to the zoo or Whole Foods.
At this time I am enjoying life as a new mama and am not taking midwifery clients regularly.
